Applications Called for 2026 National School Teacher Transfers: Online Process Announced
The Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education has officially called for applications for the 2026 Annual National School Teacher Transfers
The transfers are divided into two main categories
Category 1: Compulsory Teacher Transfers: Applies to teachers under the age of 55 who will complete eight (08) years of continuous service at their current permanent national school as of December 31, 2026
. Calculated service includes temporary attachments, as well as paid or unpaid local/foreign leave . Teachers who meet these criteria but fail to apply online will have their transfers processed directly by the Teacher Transfer Board through recommendations submitted by their principals using forms TTB/2026/02 and TTB/2026/03 . Category 2: Annual Transfers: Open to teachers who do not fall into the compulsory category but wish to request a transfer based on personal needs

Key Deadlines and Application Procedure
Online Application Period: Teachers must submit their transfer applications online via the official portal at www.nstt.moe.gov.lk from July 16, 2026, to July 30, 2026
. Submission of Printouts: Teachers must hand over a signed, dated printed copy of their online application to their school principal on or before July 31, 2026
. Principal Recommendations: Principals must log in as a principal on the same portal to submit their recommendations online by August 3, 2026
. A certified, signed printout with the official school seal must be attached right behind the teacher’s signature page . Final Submission to the Ministry: The completed application packets must be physically delivered to the National School Teacher Transfer Branch at the Ministry of Education between August 3, 2026, and August 10, 2026, by the Principal or an authorized Deputy/Assistant Principal
. A copy must also be forwarded to the Zonal Education Office to be placed in the teacher's personal file .
Required Supporting Documents
Teachers must attach certified copies of the following documents to their printed application forms
Original appointment letter
. Appointment letter to the current station
. Certified copy of the 2026 personal timetable
. Highest educational/professional certificates if teaching subjects other than the initially appointed subject
. Specialized medical recommendation form (TTB/2026/05) from a government or registered private hospital, if applicable
. Certified attachment details form if space on the online portal was insufficient
. Confirmation certificate from a chief prelate or parish priest if the applicant is a member of the clergy managing a religious place
. Approval letter from the Ministry if currently attached to another institution
. Ministry approval letter if foreign leave has been sanctioned
.
Direct and Mail Submissions Strictly Prohibited
The Ministry stressed that applications sent via post or delivered individually by teachers will be rejected immediately without prior notice
