The University Grants Commission (UGC) of Sri Lanka oversees admissions to all state universities for the Academic Year 2025/2026, based on the G.C.E. (Advanced Level) Examination 2025 results. The full process — eligibility, application, Z‑score cut‑offs, selection, and registration — is managed through the official portal: www.ugc.ac.lk.
📋 Eligibility Requirements
Candidates must satisfy both conditions:
- At least ‘S’ grades in all three approved subjects, obtained in one sitting, within a maximum of 3 attempts.
- A minimum of 30% marks for the Common General Paper.
⚠️ Without meeting the 30% requirement, you will not be eligible for registration even if selected on Z‑score.

📝 How to Apply
- Get the Handbook: Available for Rs. 1,000 from UGC office, bookshops, or by post.
- Apply Online: Visit www.ugc.ac.lk, enter A/L index number, select up to 10 preferred courses/universities by priority.
- Submit & Print: Print your completed form after online submission.
- Send by Registered Post to: Deputy Secretary / University Admissions, UGC, No. 20, Ward Place, Colombo 07. Hand‑delivered forms not accepted.
📊 Selection — Z‑Score & Quota
- Selection is based on your Z‑score, ranked in order of merit.
- 40% — Merit: All‑island rank
- 55% — District Quota: Regional distribution
- 5% — Special Provision: Educationally Disadvantaged Districts
✅ After Selection — Registration
Once selected, receive your offer letter via the portal. Then:
- Pay Rs. 50 registration fee (bank deposit or online).
- Register online by the deadline and upload payment proof.
- Report to your university with original documents on the given date.
