ICT Syllabus Updated for Grade 10 and 11

The Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education has officially announced a revision to the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) syllabus for students in Grade 10 and Grade 11.

The update comes as part of a broader educational reform initiative. While a completely new curriculum is slated for introduction to Grade 6 in 2027 and subsequently to Grade 10, the Ministry has decided to implement an immediate interim revision to the current ICT syllabus to keep pace with rapid technological advancements.

Key Highlights of the Announcement:

  • Syllabus Update: The existing ICT syllabus (in place since 2015) has been modified. Specific competency levels and content units for Grade 10 have been updated to reflect modern requirements.
  • Implementation for Exams: The Ministry confirmed that students sitting for the G.C.E. Ordinary Level (O/L) Examination in 2027 and beyond will be tested based on this newly revised syllabus.
  • Resource Availability: * The revised syllabus is now available for download on the official websites of the National Institute of Education (www.nie.ac.lk) and the Ministry of Education (www.moe.gov.lk).
    • The Educational Publications Department is currently revising the Grade 10 and 11 textbooks to align with these changes. These updated materials will be distributed to schools in the near future.
  • Official Directive: The circular, signed by the Secretary to the Ministry of Education, has been dispatched to all Provincial and Zone Education Directors, as well as School Principals, to ensure teachers and students are briefed immediately.

The Ministry emphasized that this move is essential to ensure that the ICT curriculum remains relevant and provides students with the necessary skills for a digital future before the full-scale curriculum reforms take effect in 2027.
