The British School in Colombo is hiring a School Counsellor. The school counselor will provide high-quality counseling services to students and staff, in accordance with best practices in the UK and internationally.
Here are the qualifications and experience required for the position:
- A commitment to a positive and inclusive school culture and the ability to work with all members of the school community
- The ability to collaborate and share expertise across and within the whole school community
- A commitment to keeping up to date with current UK Safeguarding practices
- A strong commitment to the pastoral care of the students
- Experience in working with groups of children
- Classroom teaching experience/teaching qualification, the ability to facilitate training or workshops would be an advantage
- An understanding of developmental, social, emotional and educational needs of children
- Experience working with school aged children, 3-18, and their families
- Comfortable and confident in facilitating discussions on sensitive and contentious subjects and devise classroom activities to address these issues
- Open-minded, flexible and empathetic
- Be able to respect students' privacy but also understand limits to confidentiality: maintain professional boundaries at all times
- A background in counselling/mental health/psychology is essential
The position is full-time during school hours: Monday to Friday 7:00 am to 3:30pm.
