GCE A/L Examination Procedure
The annual examinations are held at selected national schools nationwide. The Department of Examinations of Sri Lanka appoints invigilators and supervisors, typically qualified teachers from the local school system. Candidates are permitted to take the exam up to three times to qualify for admission to a Sri Lankan university. They must meet the minimum requirements for university admission within these three attempts. Assessment of the tests is conducted by marking panels, usually comprised of qualified and experienced in-service school teachers, guided by supervisors who are typically university lecturers. The release of the island-wide GCE A/L examination results takes approximately 5–6 months. After obtaining the results, candidates may have to wait for about a year, depending on the university and the chosen course of study, before gaining admission to a local university.
